Stormwater work scheduled for 29th Street, North Lake Park
Contact: Jodi Lessman, 962-2555
Work begins in December to replace a corroded and failing culvert that carries stormwater runoff under 29th Street north of North Lake Park. The project will not disrupt 29th Street traffic.
The existing 36-inch corrugated metal culvert, installed in the 1960s, takes stormwater runoff from the Caddoa Basin north of 29th Street downstream through the North Lake Park pond into Lake Loveland.
The project includes slip-lining the existing culvert with a new 30-inch culvert and installing two new parallel 36-inch culverts under 29th Street. The three new culverts working together will provide enough capacity to handle 2 inches of rain over a two-hour period without overtopping 29th Street.
Site preparation for the upcoming work includes lowering the North Lake Park pond to expose and dry out the south side of the existing culvert. Then, a temporary coffer dam will be constructed on the north side of 29th Street within Benson Park’s lower pond so sediment can be removed within the work area. A temporary work platform will be installed for crews working to bore tunnels under the street for the new culverts.
The project will be completed on or before March 31, 2017.
