The once-a-decade task of putting numbers to the U.S. population is underway in 2020, and Loveland’s local Complete Count Committee is seeking help from individuals and groups in completing the work.

At stake are the city’s share of federal funds awarded for purposes that include education, transportation and housing, and the ways state and federal legislative district lines are redrawn to reflect population change.

“This count matters in so many ways,” said Justine Bruno, the City’s project manager helping to coordinate U.S. Census work locally. “With $675 billion in federal funding hanging in the balance, a complete and accurate count will ensure Loveland receives its fair share.”

Complete Count Committees are volunteer groups, working with local governments to raise awareness of the 2020 Census and motivate residents to respond. Members come from civic organizations, faith-based groups, and include leaders from education, business, healthcare and other sectors.

Trusted community influencers play a vital role in ensuring that all residents are aware of the census and help carry the message that information gathered is kept confidential. Statistical data the census collects is protected by law, and information from residents is never shared with immigration or law enforcement agencies.

“We need these community voices to help deliver the message that an accurate and complete census count is critically important for our community,” Bruno said. “The benefits that can flow to Loveland are dependent on our ability to make sure everyone counts.”
