 Standing water inspections planned

To focus attention on eliminating mosquito breeding sites by keeping yards free of standing water, about 100 Loveland homes will be randomly inspected Monday.  Additional attention to eliminating breeding sites is timely because of the current concern about West Nile Virus, especially with the rainfall the area has recently received.

Between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., Colorado Mosquito Control workers will knock on doors and ask to check backyards for clogged gutters, children’s pools, coffee cans and other potential breeding sites.  Homeowners where no breeding sites have been found will be rewarded with gift certificates to Loveland businesses.

A recent sampling has shown high numbers of Culex pipiens mosquitoes, known carriers of West Nile Virus in the Loveland area.  The recent rains provide a perfect environment for these mosquitoes to breed, giving rise to possible West Nile Virus infections.

Residents are asked to join the fight against West Nile Virus and empty any containers with standing water to help protect family, friends and neighbors against mosquitoes and West Nile Virus.  For more information, call Colorado Mosquito Control at 962-2583.
