The Planning Commission
is an appointed, 9-member board that is responsible for the review of
development applications and planning policy matters. Regular meetings
occur twice each month. Commission business is generally conducted in a
public hearing format where public notice has been provided and procedural
rules are followed. Meeting agendas and distribution materials are posted
on the Commission web page several days prior to each meeting. Agendas,
meeting minutes and commission materials from previous meetings remain
available on the web site.
The
Commission reviews and makes a recommendation to the City Council on the
following matters:

Annexations, rezonings, general development plans and non-phased
preliminary development plans for PUDs, comprehensive plan amendments
and code amendments.
The Commission has final authority on the following application types:

Zoning Board of
Adjustment:
The Planning Commission
serves as the City’s Zoning Board of Adjustment, having final authority on
the appeal of decisions by the Zoning Board of Adjustment hearing officer.
Each year, the Planning Commission elects a hearing officer from among its
membership. The hearing officer hears variance requests and certain appeals
of administrative decisions.
Current Planning
Division:
Division staff provides
support to the Planning Commission and the Zoning Board of Adjustment. In
this capacity, staff prepares meeting agendas, staff reports and related
communications. Current Planning also develops and schedules occasional
study sessions, site visits and other activities.
Citizen communications
to the Planning Commission or the Zoning Board of Adjustment (ZBA) should
come through the Current Planning office. Commissioners should not be
contacted directly about any active or scheduled development
applications—this type of communication is in violation of City
regulations. Instead, any information directed to the Commission should
come through the Current Planning office which will ensure that all
Commissioners are provided with the information. Any documents, including
letters, petitions, plans, graphics, photographs or similar materials, can
be hand-delivered, mailed or emailed as provided below:
