Celebrate Colorado Children’s Day on March 9

Celebrated in Loveland since 2002

The City of Loveland, with the help of the Thompson School District, will celebrate the annual Colorado Children’s Day from 11 a.m to 3 p.m. on Fri., March 9 at various locations throughout the City of Loveland campus.

The event, now in its 16th year, was founded by long-time resident Annie Hall who believed that children deserved a day totally dedicated to their celebration and enjoyment.

Last year, more than 2,500 children and their parents enjoyed this fun-filled annual event.

The activities will be celebrated around much of City of Loveland campus. Kids can learn and have fun at each location. Locations and Activities Include:

  • Public Works Building (2525 W. First St.) 'Touch a Truck,' Puppet show-CANCELED, pollution-prevention demos, flood information and rain gauges, sweeper truck demos, tours of the building.

  • Chilson Recreation Center (700 E. Fourth St.) Free youth day pass with paying adult, SNAG golf, athletics and fishing demos at the lagoon, pottery, cooking and LEGO demos.

Inclement Weather:

Children’s Day will be held rain, snow or shine. Some activities may be impacted by weather but the Touch-A-Truck, Puppet Shows, Storytime in the Library, and Chilson Recreation Center crafts or class demos will run, regardless of the weather. Please dress for the weather.

Representatives from City departments including Cultural Services, Facilities Management, Fire Rescue Authority, Library, Parks and Recreation, Police, Streets and Traffic, Stormwater and Water & Power work with the Thompson School District to plan and hold Colorado Children’s Day every year.

Children’s Day is the result of the long-time dream of Loveland resident Annie Hall, who lived for 100 years as the biggest fan of children and celebrating them and their spirit. With Annie’s request, Colorado Senator Stan Matsunaka sponsored Senate Joint Resolution 01-015 in March 2001, which created a Colorado Children’s Day to be celebrated each year on the first Wednesday in March. The resolution was unanimously passed by the Colorado legislature. The City of Loveland in cooperation with Thompson School District has been celebrating Colorado Children’s Day since 2002. The day that the event is celebrated has been adjusted over time to better accommodate school schedules, but is still celebrated in Loveland in Annie’s memory.
