What
types of athletic activities are offered by the City?
A. The
City of Loveland Parks & Recreation Department offers many athletic
activities throughout the year, including:
Spring/Summer: Adult - Soccer, Softball, Tennis, Volleyball,
Youth - Baseball/T-Ball, Gymnastics, Soccer, Softball, Tennis, In-Line
Hockey

Q.
What
is the Annual AA Player Fee?
A. An
annual AA player participation fee is required for each person
participating in Adult Athletic Leagues. The Player fee must be paid at the
Chilson Recreation Center or at the Parks & Recreation Administration
Office prior to the beginning of your selected league. This fee covers
participants from April 1st of the current year through March 31st of the
following year. You may use one Annual Adult Athletics Player Fee for as
many activities as you want to during the year!

do I apply for employment within the Parks & Recreation Department?
A. All
employment applications for the City of Loveland are taken through the
Human Resources Department, and then processed. If you are called for an
interview, then you will meet with the appropriate staff members, and the

we rent rooms at the Chilson Recreation Center for parties, weddings, or special
events?
A. YES!
The Chilson Recreation Center and Chilson Senior Center have rooms
available for rent for all occasions. Availability and price vary for each

The
Parks and Recreation Department is composed of five divisions:
Administration, Golf, Natural Areas, Parks, and Recreation. The department
offers diverse and comprehensive year-round programming for all ages at a
number of facilities throughout the City of Loveland. The department
manages 27 city parks, 3 golf courses, many miles of recreational trail,
28 natural areas, the Hatfield Chilson Recreation Center, Barnes Park
Batting Cages, Winona Swimming Pool, Lake Loveland Swim Beach, and the

Department preserves open space and natural areas by working with willing
landowners to acquire property through simple purchases, conservation

Q.
Where
is Winona Pool?
A. Adjacent
to Osborn Park, located at 1615 4th Street SE. Take Boise to 4th
Street SE and turn west. The pool will be on your right hand side.
Q. When
is swimming allowed at Lake Loveland Swim Beach?
A. The
Lake Loveland Swim Beach is open during the Summer months when the water
levels are at a safe capacity for swimming within the pre-determined,
roped off area. No swimming will be allowed when the water level is not at
a safe depth. During drought conditions, please observe the signs, and do
not attempt to swim there when posted.
Q. What
are the hours at Lake Loveland Swim Beach?
A. The
swim beach is open daily from 10:00am-5:00pm when guard staff are on duty,
and weather permitting.
Q. Where
is swimming permitted?
A. Swimming
is permitted within areas designated by ropes and buoys only.
Individuals swimming or wading outside of designated areas risk receiving
a citation for trespassing. Children under 6 years of age must
be directly supervised by an adult (16 +). Back to the

Q.
Do
I have to reserve a park shelter if I want to use it?
A. Shelter
reservations are required if you want to be assured a spot for your
special event. If a shelter is reserved, the reservation will be posted in
the shelter on the date of the reservation. If a shelter has not been
reserved at least three business days in advance, it is available on a first-come,
first-serve basis to the general public (with the exception of the
Shelter Area #1 at Viestenz-Smith Mountain Park which requires 7 business
days advance reservation, and is not available to the public except by
reservation). You can call the Administrative
Office at (970) 962-2727 to check for availability of the shelter you
would like to use.
Q. How
soon do I need to make my park shelter reservations?
A. Shelter
reservations are made for the current year beginning the first working day
in January, and must be made at least 3 business days in advance of your
reservation date. Reservations for Viestenz-Smith Mountain Park are
required at least 7 days in advance.. We would suggest that you make your reservations
as soon as possible, as the shelter reservations fill up early

Q. Can I bring a Pig-Roaster
or Large Barbeque Cooker to the Park?
A. Yes, as
long as it remains on the pavement. You cannot drive it out to the shelter
area. However, if there is a fire ban in effect, all roasters or barbecues
must be propane or electric powered ONLY.
Q. Can
I drive my elderly relative or disabled family member out to the shelter?
A. No
vehicles are permitted on the turf or sidewalks at any time. Our park
shelters are wheelchair accessible from the parking areas.
Q. Can
I bring my dog to the park?
A. Yes,
your dog is welcome at the park as
long as it stays on a leash, and under human control at all times. You
must also
pick up after any messes made. No digging is allowed.
Q. Can
I reserve the Gazebo at Benson Sculpture Park for my wedding?
A. YES!
Reservations are allowed at the Gazebo in Benson Sculpture Park, for a
limited number of people (up to 50). No large group reservations are
allowed. You must park on the park-side of the street, so as not
to block the street parking for the homes on either side of the park.

Q. How
do I book the Norma & Lynn Hammond Amphitheater at North Lake Park for use by my large
group or organization?
A. Please
call the Parks & Recreation Administration Office to begin the
paperwork process of getting approval from the Park Manager for your large
group use. Once this
step has been taken, the Administrative Office will walk you through the
rest of the process.
Q. Can
I reserve the balcony/stone picnic area by the south end of the pond at Viestenz-Smith
Mountain Park?
A. This is
not a reservable area. However, there are two other reservable areas at
Viestenz-Smith. Please see Viestenz-Smith Mountain Park.
Q. Who
do I call to reserve the Foote Lagoon Amphitheater area?
A. Please
call the Facility Maintenance Office to reserve this area at (970)
420-8518.
Q. Who
handles reservations for Boyd Lake, Carter Lake, Pinewood Reservoir, Lon
Hagler, Lone Tree, and Boedecker Lake?
A. These
areas are not handled by the City Parks & Recreation Department. Below are
the contact numbers for those areas:

Lake State Park can be reached at (970)

Carter Lake and Pinewood Reservoir are handled by Larimer County
Parks and Open Lands at (970) 679-4570.
Lon Hagler, Lone Tree, and
Boedecker are managed by the Division of Wildlife and the State
of Colorado. For further information about State Wildlife areas, please call
472-4300.
Q. How
do I register my boat?
A. Boat
registrations are handled by the State through the office at Boyd Lake
State Park.
More information can be obtained by calling their office at (970) 669-1739.
Q. Is
charcoal allowed in the City Park barbecues during fire ban conditions for
the State?
A.
Yes, under normal conditions, charcoal may be used. See below for further
details in case of a fire ban:
A. Due to a STATE FIRE RESTRICTION
or BAN:
ALL charcoal fires, or open fires of any kind may be banned in the public areas
and park areas of Loveland if there is a State Fire Ban put in place by
Governor's mandate. This includes use
of the established park shelter grills. However, portable propane gas grills or electric grills
are allowed to be used
in this case. Tiki torches, Candles, or Log fires are
banned at all times.

does the next Leisure Times Recreation Brochure come out?
A. The Leisure
Times recreation brochure is distributed quarterly through the direct
mail to household which have participated in an activity in the past two
years. If you would like to be added to the mailing list, please fill out

The Leisure Times can also be picked up after the quarterly mailing
goes out each quarter at the Chilson Recreation Center or at the Parks & Recreation
Administration Office during normal operating hours. There are also other

Classes do you offer?

Why
are there age requirements, prerequisites, or maximums for some of the
classes?
A. Many of
our classes or activities have age restrictions or limitations due to
safety and class structure issues. Those age restrictions or limitations
cannot be overridden in most cases. Back to the

Q.
When
is the Recreational Trail going to be completed?
A. The trail
system should be completed in the next couple of years, if all sections are developed
according to the 2001 Parks and Recreation Master Plan. Many trail
sections are dependant upon new development, and are subject to completion
of these subdivisions before the trail can be finished.
Q.
How
do the trail markers denote the distance that I have utilized the trail?
A. The
markers along the trail denote each quarter-mile distance.
Q.
How
many miles long is the entire Recreational Trail?
A. There
are currently many miles of
trail. This number is constantly changing, as we new sections
of trail are completed. Please refer to the
RecTrails page for more info.
Q.
How
do I find out when a certain section of trail should be completed?
A. Please

Q.
How
is the Recreational Trail System funded?
A. The
City receives funding from the Colorado State Lottery, which it uses for
the construction of the recreation trail system. Capital Expansion
Fees are also collected on new homes to supplement trail acquisition and

Q. What
does the Senior Center offer?
A. There
are numerous activities which are run through the
Hatfield Chilson Recreation Center and Senior Center. Please call (970)

Q. How
old do I have to be to participate in the activities at the Senior Center?
A. Seniors
can purchase a Senior Activity Card (SAC) at the age of 62 or over. The
SAC will allow the senior who purchases it discounted rates, and priority
registration to any of the activities at the Chilson Recreation/Senior
Center. However, once the
initial priority registration period for SAC holders has passed, ANYONE may register for senior classes or activities. You do not need a SAC to
participate in any of the activities at the Senior Center. If a fee is
involved, you would pay the fee of a non-SAC holder to participate if you
do not have an SAC.
Q. Are there apartments at the
Chilson Senior Center?
A. No, the
Chilson Senior Center is a multi-purpose senior center which offers many
activities to the senior community.
Q. How
do I make reservations for lunch?
A. The VOA
Meal Program serves lunch Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday at 12:00 noon. The
suggested donation is $2.50 for people aged 60 and over. The menu is
printed in the Saturday Reporter Herald newspaper, and reservations must be made in advance by calling
(970) 472-9630 by 1:00pm the previous day. Check-in time is 11:30-11:45am. Back to the

Tennis
courts are located at the following parks for public use:
Dwayne Webster Veterans Park - 2 lighted courts
Edmondson Park - 2 lighted courts
McKee Park - 2 courts
North Lake Park/Owens Field - 12 lighted courts
Osborn Park - 2 lighted courts
Sunnyside Park - 1 court
The courts may be used at any time that they are
not reserved for league play or a special event. You may reserve/rent a
tennis court for a special event, tournament, or league play through the
Parks & Recreation Administrative Office at 500 East 3rd Street. The
tennis courts are reserved for a fee.
Q. What
types of tennis lessons are offered through the City of Loveland?
A. We
offer a variety of classes for children ages 5-adult for all ability
levels, beginner through intermediate.
Q. Do
you offer a more competitive team program for Tennis?
A.
Yes, during the summer. We participate in the Colorado
Association of Recreational Athletics (CARA) program, which provides
children ages 8-18 a recreational, non-ranked, non-sanctioned opportunity
to be part of a tennis team.
