Pool
The main pool at the Chilson Recreation Center is
approximately 132,000 gallons, and is 8 lanes wide & 25 yards long
with a teaching area. The pool is handicap accessible.
Corkscrew Slide
The Chilson Recreation Center is home to northern Colorado’s
premier indoor water slide. The slide’s 120 foot corkscrew design has been
a favorite at Chilson from day one.
Hot Tubs, Steam Room
& Sundeck
The Chilson Recreation Center has two warm pools. The
indoor hot tub is kept between 98 and 100 degrees Fahrenheit. The outdoor
hot tub is kept between 102 and 104 degrees Fahrenheit. The steam room is
a hot and humid 120 degrees Fahrenheit. Youth under the age of 14
are NOT permitted in the outdoor Hot Tub or Steam Room.

Swimming Lessons
The City of Loveland Parks & Recreation "Learn
To Swim" Program teaches swimming skills in a safe and fun
environment. All classes are certified and structured by the American Red
Cross. This progress card shows your child’s accomplishments and we
suggest that you use it for ongoing reference for future instructors.
Class
Descriptions
We are excited to offer the updated “Learn To Swim”
program introduced in 2004 by the American Red Cross.
Skill levels 1 through 6 have been reorganized to provide a more logical
progression for movement through each level while providing complete,
challenging, and attainable results for participants. Please review the
information provided below in choosing the appropriate level for the
participant’s abilities.
If you are unsure what level to enroll in, please contact the Chilson
Center Aquatics area, and request a swim test.
Parent/Infant: Ages 6-18 Months:
Covers parent skills such as holding positions, cues, and basic safety.
Infant skills cover water adjustment, exploring the pool, back float, arm
movement, and rolling over.
Parent/Toddler: Ages 1½-4 Years:
Covers parent skills such as holding positions, cues, and basic safety.
Toddler skills include water adjustment, exploring the pool, front kick,
gliding, back float, and underwater exploration.
Preschool: Ages 3-5 Years:
Covers basic water and floatation skills for children with previous water
experience. This class introduces basic water skills needed for the child
to enter the Red Cross training classes (Levels 1-6). Highlights having
fun in the water, holding breath, bobbing, submerging, floating, and water
safety.
Level 1: Intro to Water Skills
Ages 5+: Covers water exploration, water safety, entering and exiting the
water safely, facial submersion, front and back floats, front and back
swims with arm motions, picking up submerged objects, and basic water
breathing.
Level 2: Fundamental Water Skills
Prerequisite- MUST have successfully completed Level 1, or be able to
demonstrate the Level 1 requirements.
Ages 5+: Covers primary and fundamental skills. Water entry from the deck,
submerge entire head, front and back glides, swim on sides, rolling from
front to back, treading water using arm and leg motions, and swimming on
front and back using combined strokes.
Level 3: Stroke Development
Prerequisite- MUST have successfully completed Level 2, or be able to
demonstrate the Level 2 requirements.
Ages 5+: Covers stroke readiness and coordination. Develops confidence in
various strokes. Jump into the water, perform survival float, perform
front and back glides, perform front and back crawl, perform HELP and
huddle positions, butterfly kick and body motion, water safety and
survival techniques.
Level 4: Stroke Improvement
Prerequisite- MUST have successfully completed Level 3, or be able to
demonstrate the Level 3 requirements.
Ages 5+: Covers stroke development and improvement. Focus on front and
back strokes, elementary back stroke, intro to breast stroke and
butterfly, side stroke with scissor kick, treading water, open turns on
front and back.
Level 5: Stroke Refinement
Prerequisite- MUST have successfully completed Level 4, or be able to
demonstrate the Level 4 requirements.
Ages 5+: Covers further coordination and refinement of strokes. Tread
water with different kicks, survival swim, front and back flip turns,
front and back crawl, elementary backstroke, butterfly, and survival
swimming. Perform rescue breathing.
Level 6: Swimming and Skill Proficiency
Prerequisite- MUST have successfully completed Level 5, or be able to
demonstrate the Level 5 requirements.
Ages 5+: Refines the strokes so that students swim them with ease,
efficiency, power, and smoothness over greater distances. Designed with
options such as lifeguard readiness, competitive swimming, and water
safety instruction that focus on preparing students to participate in more
advanced courses.
Adult Beginner: Ages 16+:
For adult swimmers with very limited water ability. Propulsion movements,
basic strokes, and water safety are taught. Pool Guidelines
v Please
take the opportunity to shower before entering the Main Pool, Hot Tubs,
and Steam Room areas.
v No running on the deck, for safety of all
guests.
v No shoes allowed on pool deck.
v No diving allowed.
v Food, chewing gum, tobacco, and
glass containers are prohibited on the Aquatics and Outdoor Patio areas.
v Expectorating/Spitting is not permitted.
v Proper swim attire is required in all
bodies of water. "Street Clothes" are prohibited. Please see an Aquatics
Area Staff Member for clarification concerning appropriate attire.
v Children under the age of 6 must be
accompanied in the water by an individual 16 years of age or older.
Individuals must stay within 5 feet of the child at all times. Children 6
and 7 years of age must be directly supervised and watched closely from
the pool deck by an individual 16 years of age or older.
v Please make sure your child uses the
restroom prior to entering the aquatics area. "Accidents" of this nature
in the water will force extended closures in all bodies of water.
Children ages 0-3 years are required to wear
rubber/plastic pants over their diapers, or swim diapers under their
swimsuits.
v Flotation devices may be used at the discretion
of the Aquatics Staff in the Main Pool only. Hard/solid objects such as
squirt guns, basketballs, and footballs are prohibited.
v Lap lanes are designated for both "lap
swimming and water walking". Please avoid crossing the lanes at all times.
Please use the lane that is compatible with your ability.
During peak lap swim times guests are encouraged to "circle
swim". See lifeguard for further clarification.
v Devices such as Kickboards, Leg Floats,
and Flippers are available for adult lap swimming, aqua fitness classes,
and swim lessons only. Student use of the swim lanes is at the discretion
of the Aquatics Staff in that area.
v Specific policies for use of the slide are
posted in slide area.

Hot Tub & Steam Room Guidelines
v Consult your physician
before use. These conditions are recognized risk factors: history of heart
disease, high blood pressure, respiratory disease, pregnancy, etc.....
v Maximum recommended use time: ten minutes
v Youth under the age of 14 are NOT permitted in the outdoor Hot
Tub or Steam Room.
v Youth under the age of 12 are permitted in the indoor Therapy
Pool, but must be directly supervised by a person at least 16 years of
age. One person can supervise a maximum of four children of this age.
v Jumping or diving into therapy pool and outdoor hot tub is
prohibited.
v Use of eucalyptus or personal hygiene products are not permitted.
