Last year's event took place
Saturday, September 26th. Weather was great, allowing
for a successful clean-up event. Approximately 190
students and adults volunteered their time to help clean up
along the Big Thompson River. Everyone gathered at
Fairgrounds Park and dispersed along the "Big T" toting
donated garbage bags. Some volunteers donned
waders and walked along the river collecting any garbage
they could find; other remained on the riverbank gathering
garbage from both the water and the vegetation along the
sides. To view pictures of last year's event, click

2010 Annual
Spring
Waterway Clean-up
Saturday, April 17th |
|
|
The City of
Loveland's Stormwater Engineering division hosted its Annual
Spring Waterway Clean-up Saturday, April 17th from 9 am to
noon. We had approximately 270 volunteers who
participated in the event including groups from Bill Reed
Middle School; Sylvan Dale Guest Ranch; Reflections for
Youth; CSUnity Students from Delta, Delta, Delta and Gamma
Phi Beta Sororities; Wal-Mart Distribution Center; Northern
Colorado Covenant of the River; Conrad Ball Middle School
National Honor Society; Thompson Valley High School Honor
Society, and; the Vineyard Church in Loveland.
The volunteers
removed approximately 10
tons of material from the waterways of Loveland comprised of
a wide and varied assortment of trash. In addition to
the familiar assortment of cans, bottles and plastic items
that always seem to end up in our waterways, volunteers
removed more that two dozen shopping carts, several tires
(one of which was believe to have come from a large
tractor), a water logged couch, a tent, construction
materials, and and engine block.
