Adopt-a-Waterway Program |
Clean waterways are valued
for drinking, planting, recreation, and a healthy riparian environment.
Yet some people will dispose of landscape waste, building materials, household
items, and other materials into neighborhood waterways, not realizing that
there’s a connection between waterways and storm water quality.
The City of Loveland
has recently developed a comprehensive Adopt-A-Waterway program that enables
Homeowners Associations (HOAs) and organizations such as the boy and girl
scouts, Kiwanis, Rotary and Moose Clubs, etc. to participate in improving a
waterway in a number of ways. The adoptee will be supplied the necessary
tools and materials by the City of Loveland Stormwater Utility to perform one or
all of the following tasks:
-
Remove and properly
dispose of unwanted materials from within and along a waterway at least three
times a year.
-
Stabilize eroding
shorelines and/or stream banks.
-
Remove undesirable
(nuisance) vegetation.
-
Install native
plant materials.
-
Monitor water
quality through the sampling of Benthic Macro invertebrates.
-
Assist property
owners in need of protecting existing vegetation from wildlife, i.e. beaver
activity.

Formally adopted waterways within the City of
Loveland:
To recognize those who
formally Adopt-A-Waterway and
to help further promote the program, the City of Loveland Stormwater Utility will
have signs specially manufactured for each of the groups to display along the section of
waterway that is formally adopted by them. Each sign is comprised of
two separate sections. The
upper sign
will list the name of the waterway and the
lower
sign
will list the name of the adopting organization. The The City of Loveland Stormwater
Utility will also supply all the necessary materials for each of the groups including
trash bags and make sure the disposal of materials is done
properly and in a
timely manner. If you are interested in participating in this program
please complete and submit the
sign-up
form, email us at

Stormdrain
Marker Program |
|
|
The Storm Drain Marker
Program is a one in which volunteers install Storm drain markers. The
City of Loveland’s intent is to install approximately 2500 storm drain markers
over the next four years with the assistance of volunteer groups.
Clean water is valued
for drinking, irrigating, recreation, and a healthy riparian environment.
Yet some people will dispose of used
motor oil, antifreeze, household and garden
chemicals, and other toxic or hazardous materials into neighborhood storm drains
(inlets, catch basins and/or manholes), not realizing that there is a connection
between the storm drains and our local waterways. The storm drains collect
stormwater runoff from all over the City before discharging it into our local
waterways.
Storm drain markers
are designed to raise public awareness of this connection.
The City of Loveland Stormwater Utility is seeking
volunteers to help install these storm drain markers.
If you are interested in participating in this program please contact Joe
Chaplin at (970) 962-2772 for more information or email us at
Stormwater@ci.loveland.co.us .
